What is BYDFAULT?BYDFAULT is a socially conscious premium apparel line committed to allowing people to make an impact on our world through guilt free fashion. Proceeds from every purchase go back to a charity. BYDFAULT donates $5 of every sale to the cause that inspired the design. BYDFAULT items are manufactured responsibly and sold online and in select retailers.
What is BYDFAULT's mission?BYDFAULT’s mission is to allow people to make an impact on our world with the purchases they make.
How did you come up with BYDFAULT as brand name?Not the easiest, best or simplest way to name a brand after, right? Not even easy to pronounce or spell out… We wanted to build something with our guts (figuratively) relying on our instinct (not something over thought). Because giving back is so obvious to us, because we wanted to run a business with a different perspective on the bottom line, because we believe in art as a powerful weapon to impact the world… all these reasons were by default what we wanted to do. Yes, by default, that’s it! And that’s basically how we became BYDFAULT. And, we kinda like it!
Why is BYDFAULT a for-profit company?Running a for-profit organization gives us much more flexibility in working with and giving to charities in the world, and in working with communities, people or businesses we want to work with.
Why is BYDFAULT a member of the Seattle fashion Incubator?We are heavily involved into the local economy working with local businesses and into building a garment district in Seattle. In that regard, the membership with the Seattle Fashion Incubator is helping us work with local designers and manufacturers. Stephane Boss is also a mentor helping other members.

How do you choose the artists?BYDFAULT teams up with top notch artists from around the world and pays them to make exclusive designs for us. Each design is inspired by a cause the artist wants to support. This is so much more than commission work. We are interested in being true to the artist's inspiration that's why the result is a piece of art advocating for a cause that you can wear. We choose the artist we work with based on their style and engagement. Because we like art with a point of view, we like socially engaged artists. Some of the artists we work with are emerging artists; others still have a day job while others have done solo or group exhibitions and have been featured on art magazines. Their current success does not really matter to us as we follow our instinct and are willing to work with like-minded artists. Thanks to our approach, every artist has a unique style and so does the design on the garment. Per Stephane’s words: “in a way, we act as a curator looking for interesting artists and art that instead of being on a wall is on a garment that people can show off to a wide audience”
Do you accept design submissions from other artists?If you are an engaged artist and support a cause or interested in supporting a cause and recognize yourself in our mission, then feel free to shoot us an email at art[@]bydfault[dot]com. Having said that, we do not want to set wrong expectations as space and time is limited.
+About the CausesBYDFAULT builds partnerships and gives back to nonprofit organizations. Through these partnerships we drive awareness on major issues the world is facing and get more people engaged and supportive of the cause. The funds we raise selling BYDFAULT’s products help fund nonprofit's programs and projects. You know exactly how your contribution was used for.
How do you select the causes?Charities we support are selected based upon our discussion with the artists and causes we want to have an impact on. These causes are: End Human Trafficking, Education, Health, Children, Clean Water, Environment... We hand pick each nonprofit organization mostly based on their involvement on the ground, their projects and how we can have a positive impact.
Which manufacturers do you work with?Whether our shirts are made in the USA or overseas, we always work with fair trade, socially and environmentally responsible manufacturers. Our goal is to rationalize the number of partners we work with in order to offer more quality and size consistency.
Why don't you print on your own apparel?We focus on the design and the collaboration with artists and causes. In the future we might design our own style working with some of the finest fair trade manufacturers on the marketplace.
What quality of apparel do you print on?We print on high-quality, fair trade apparel that is made of either 100% ringspun cotton, poly/cotton or poly/viscose or rPET. They fit perfectly and are ultra-super-soft and comfy.
How do I know which shirt size to order?Each product page has a link to the sizing chart. Refer to it and any special product instructions. Please refer to the sizing chart before buying even if you are not a first time buyer. Sizing might vary as we currently work with different shirt manufacturers.
I ordered two shirts of the same size, why is one smaller?Some of the designs are printed on different shirt styles. Check the product description and sizing chart.
How should I care for my shirts? Will they shrink?The best way to care for your shirts is to turn them inside out and machine or hand wash them on cold. Since most shirts have some percentage of cotton, they will tend to shrink a little after being washed and dried. To minimize shrinkage, dry on low or hang dry.
What type of printing process is used on your apparel?Our clothing are manually printed. Most of our t-shirts, tanks... are printed with water-based or discharge ink which gives an extremely soft feeling. For very complex and colorful designs, we do sublimation printing. Some of the shirts use plastisol ink to highlight some of the design details. Check the product pages for the specific type of printing of each individual product.
How much does BYDFAULT give back?As a socially conscious company, we like to have a high level of transparency. For each item sold, we give back $5 to a nonprofit organization whether the product is on promotion or not. Giving back is the reason we created BYDFAULT. Our goal is to give as much as we possibly can.
Why don’t you give more?To fulfill its mission and make premium apparel and accessories, BYDFAULT needs to cover the following business costs: artist fees, blank t-shirts and other accessories, photos, screen printing, hang tags, packaging, goodies (stickers, tattoo...), custom mailer, custom labels, rent, utilities, marketing, payroll, legal and accounting, supplies, licenses, hosting, and many other costs... What forms of payment do you accept?We accept major credit cards such as Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover or direct payments, all through PayPal.
Do I need a PayPal account to purchase from this store?You are not required to have a PayPal account to purchase from our store. However, if you have a PayPal account you may use it.
Is your website secure?BYDFAULT takes security issues very seriously. We use PayPal as our payment gateway and as such use industry standard SSL (secure sockets layer) protocol with an encryption key length of 128-bits (the highest level commercially available) to protect your personal and payment information.

How much does shipping cost?We offer free ground shipping or orders shipped within the U.S.A. International orders are a flat rate fee of $8.99 shipping and handling. *Please note: orders shipped outside of the U.S.A. are subject to regular customs duties and fees levied by the destination country.
What shipping method do you use?Standard shipping for orders in the United States are shipped via USPS First Class or Priority Mail. International orders are shipped via USPS First Class International Mail.
If I order multiple products, do they ship in one package?You rock! We currently ship your order in one package for up to three shirts.
How long does it take to receive my product(s)?Once your order is placed it is usually shipped within 24hours. Shipping from our warehouse to your front door can take anywhere from 1 to 3 weeks, depending on where your product is being shipped. Tracking for international orders will not update once the package leaves the US, but the order is still on its way.
Do you ship internationally?Yes, we ship to almost any country around the world. *Please note: Orders shipped outside of the U.S. are subject to regular customs duties and fees levied by the destination country.
What is your return & exchanges policy?Our goal is 100% customer satisfaction. In general, unworn shirts can be exchanged within 30 days of delivery. Please include a copy of the packing slip that was sent with your original purchase along with the return form. If a product is defective, it may be exchanged for a new product which will be shipped to you at no additional charge. If you have further questions please refer to our Return & Exchange policies or contact us (email@example.com). If you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, you can send it back for an exchange or refund. Items must be returned in their original condition. Please see the steps below. We accept returns in the condition in which they were sold within 30 days from the original purchase date. Download return form. (We cannot guarantee all items and sizes will be in stock).
